16.1 Candidates will be able to actively engage in professional learning networks (PLN) to collaborate and share ideas and resources with colleagues.
Key concept 16.1 was addressed in ET 630. One of the biggest focus points of ET 630 was the development of a PLN. I’ve chosen to highlight two projects that show how we engaged in professional learning networks to collaborate and share ideas and resources with colleagues. The first was the PLN website. With this project, we created a website that would act as a hub for what I would need to create a PLN in the Office of Special Education. It also outlines both the OSE PLN as well as my own personal PLN. The OSE PLN would involve colleagues within the Office and my personal PLN was my network of connecting with educators and resources outside of the Office. The second project that demonstrates that we engaged in a PLN was our in-class PLN that we created. Our group chose to run our PLN through Edmodo. On this platform, we were able to connect each other with resources.

16.2 Candidates will be able to determine and implement the best approaches to improving their technology integration efforts through a continual process of self-evaluation and reflection.
While I believe that every class I took involved reflection on best approaches to improving technology integration, I am including artifacts from ET 662 and from ET 691 to address key concept 16.2. In both courses we actually completed journal reflections that allowed us to continually evaluate our understandings and processes and ultimately improve our approaches to integrating technology within our setting. In 662 we reflected on the change process with adults and how to deal with adults that may be reluctant to embrace change. This is important, especially with technology integration in that many people have a “fear” of technology. I thought this class and this activity was very helpful in shaping how I approach the process of integrating change. This was also the case in ET 691 in which during the course of the internship I completed a reflection journal about how the process was going and if I had any successes or let downs. This journal reflection was more of a practical approach and allowed me to reflect and adjust my actions to improve my instruction. The field of educational technology is quickly and constantly changing. It will be imperative to continue to engage in professional learning. In addition to attending conferences and workshops, I think one of the things that we learned in ET 630 was to engage in a PLN. Not only in your own community but also online. Because of ET 630, I now follow many professionals in the field of educational technology on Twitter, and am constantly reading articles on the application of ed tech as well as learning about new technology that can be applied to the classroom. I also subscribe to many podcasts dedicated to educational technology. By staying current with professionals in the field it will help me to know the latest research and tools that can be used within my setting in OSE to continue to move our office forward and ultimately become more effective. In the future it will be important to continue to learn and reflect about my practice.
