9.1 Candidates will be able to model and build a positive school culture that supports the safe, healthy and ethical use of technology.
Key Concept 9.1 is addressed in ET 630 with the Critical Information Literacy Project. This project involved creating a lesson, which was presented through a website, in which students were taught how to evaluate online resources for their reliability and their validity. There are many sites on the internet that contain misleading, bias, or simply false information. Teaching students how to evaluate the truthfulness of information through fact checking and critical literacy skills helps to build a positive school culture and a healthy and ethical use of technology. Students practice applying tools to existing websites and then determine the truthfulness of the information and if there is any bias. Then they can decide if that information is useful to them. This project helps students become critical evaluators and promotes ethical use of information on the internet.
