12.1 Candidates will be able to apply models of change to understand the current situation of technology innovation in a school.
Key Concept 12.1 was addressed in ET 680 when we wrote our Technology Planning Paper. This project required us to analyze our current work/school situation in terms of models of change so that we could understand the current state of technology innovation of the school/work setting and of the individuals in that school/work setting. In my case I applied Roger’s Perceived Attributes Theory, Ely’s Eight Conditions of Change, and the ACOT model to my current work setting. With each of these models, I was able to analyze slightly different aspects of the current state of technology innovation in the Office of Special Education (OSE). With Roger’s and Ely’s models I was able to look at the overall state of OSE with respect to how technology changes would be perceived. This analysis provided some positive aspects (trialability, observability, motivation), as well as some negative aspects (incentives, time). Using these models allowed me to begin to plan how I would address the change that needed to happen as it specifically applied to my unique situation. With the ACOT model, it allowed me to look more at individuals in terms of their comfort and use of technology. While everyone has a slightly different comfort level, this analysis again allowed me to gauge a starting point for where I needed to “meet” people to begin the work of moving them along this model.
